By Sam SmithBOGOTA, Feb. 20 (UPI) — The NHL’s new uniform and equipment rules, which were first reported by The Associated Press on Friday, were expected to be announced Tuesday, with the rules being finalized this week.
The rules were issued after a year of heated debate and criticism of the NHL, the union, and the league.
The league said it was aware of the new rules but had not finalized any of them.
“As a result of this year’s heated debate, the league has made several revisions to the uniform rules, including: re-establishing the requirement that all NHL players wear a helmet and body armor; allowing players to wear a headgear or head cover while on the ice; allowing a player to wear face masks; and eliminating the requirement for a helmet visor.”
